My desire to help others through Traditional Chinese Massage and acupressure began at a very young age. I observed my grandmother apply this technique to bring relief to many people in her clinic in China. Wanting to follow in her footsteps, my grandmother mentored me. I also attended studies in China and became certified in these advanced authentic, traditional techniques in 1981. Since that time I have received additional education in other modalities and became nationally certified by the NCBTMB in 2009, and by the State of Michigan in 2010.
Since opening my Traverse City office in 2007, I have helped thousands of people find relief that they never before thought was possible. It is not unusual for people to travel great distances to make an appointment after receiving a referral from a friend. My personal technique for utilizing Traditional Chinese Massage with other Asian and specialized modalities is one of a kind. It gives me great joy to see the smile on my client's faces after treatment and learn that they have found relief through my efforts.

The goal of Swedish Massage is to melt away muscle tension and increase the blood flow to your heart. Swedish Massage is extremely therapeutic as it decreases muscle toxins, increases oxygen levels in the blood. Can be combined with massage stones which are heated and used with oils to sooth, warm and massage your muscles. This allows your body to relax and release tension and stress.

Acupressure is just like acupuncture but without using needles. Pressure is applied to the acupuncture points to stimulate various things to occur in the body, depending upon your needs. Acupressure can open up blood flow, reset nerve function, and relax muscles along the nerve pathways.
Shiatsu is a style of bodywork developed in Japan. It is similar to acupuncture, but uses finger pressure instead of needles and works along the energetic channels, and not the acupuncture points. Shiatsu's name comes from two Japanese words - "shi" or finger and "atsu" or pressure. Shiatsu's goal is to restore the healthy flow of energy throughout the body.
Thai massage is more energizing and rigorous than more classic forms of massage. Thai massage is also called Thai yoga massage because the therapist uses his or her hands, knees, legs, and feet to move you into a series of yoga-like stretches. Many people say Thai massage is like doing yoga without any work. Muscle compression, joint mobilization, and acupressure are also used during treatment. People describe Thai massage as both relaxing and energizing.
I feel compelled to write my first review after finding an amazing professional and skilled masseuse on a Sunday afternoon in the height of summer. I'm in town on vacation, sleeping on bad cottage mattresses when my father becomes seriously ill and is admitted to Munson Hospital. The only saving grace is that Happy Feet is only blocks away and Ms. Susan is available when you need her. I live in NYC and know of good Chinese acupressure massages at reasonable prices. I've had at least 100 of them. I also know of mediocre, expensive, Michigan massages too, being always hopeful and always disappointed until today. Thanks Susan! Long live Happy Feet!
I want to add if you are looking for a pampered spa experience this isn't it, but if you want to relieve those aches and pains for $55 an hour, then this is THE place!

This is a really great place to get a massage. It's very affordable and close to downtown but on a quiet neighborhood street. It's not fancy inside but Susan is super effective. It was unlike any other massage I had ever gotten. At first I was kind of like, "Hmmm, why is she doing that?" with some of her techniques that I wasn't used to. Until I realized that the pain in my lower back was starting to disappear. Like another reviewer said, she is just really skilled at finding the bad spots on your body and working them out without causing you pain in the process. My lower back is super sensitive to ANY pressure and she was able to work on it without causing me any discomfort. We will make sure to go back the next time we are on vacation in TC. :-)

I have traveled the world and I have found Susan to be the most gifted therapist that I have ever encountered. We are blessed to have her in Traverse City.
